If you have been granted permission to enter or remain in the UK beyond the 31st December 2024, you may be wondering why your Biometric Residence Permit has an expiry date of the 31st December 2024?
This is because from the 1st January 2025 the Home Office have confirmed they will be introducing BRP’s which incorporate encryption technology to meet EU requirements.
The EU requirements on BRPs were lifted following the UK’s departure from the EU, were it was decided that BRPs will continue to be issued with a valid date of 31st December 2024, as part of the process to digitalise immigration status information.
The Home Office have now confirmed that from the 1st January 2025 visa holders will no longer require a BRP and can prove your immigration status online.
You are not required to do anything at this time, the Home Office have confirmed that in early 2024 they will provide details about how to prove your immigration status online beyond the 31st December 2024.
Please note that unless your actual permission to remain in the UK expires on the 31st December 2024, it is ONLY your BRP card that will expire, not your permission.
