What is Umbrella?
Umbrella caters for a wide variety of pay rates, it also accommodates a single hour of work in a week, with a low margin that doesn’t penalise the worker. Just like traditional in-house PAYE, they receive all the usual entitlements.
How does Umbrella work?
The worker becomes our employee, with a view to doing a succession of assignments.
They do the work for you the agency, we invoice you the contract rate, to cover both payment to the worker for the work they have done and all the costs related to their employment, such as employer’s NIC, Apprenticeship Levy (AL) and the employer’s pensions auto-enrolment contribution. This rate is, therefore, higher than they would expect to get if they were paid internal PAYE through your own payroll as these costs would be incurred on top separately by you.
At this stage, the money we receive represents the gross income of the department of the umbrella company that your worker represents. It has not yet become their money. We make provision for their basic pay at National Minimum Wage, a provision for the Employer’s National Insurance, (AL) and pensions auto-enrolment contributions relating to all payments that are to be made to you. We set aside provision for working time directive and we set aside provision to reimburse them. What is left represents the profit of their department.
Their basic pay, any loans we may make in respect of their working time directive together add up to their total taxable pay and are shown as such on their payslip. This is paid, subject to PAYE and Employee’s National Insurance, Tax, AL and pensions auto-enrolment contributions.
How much will it cost?
Qualifying contract workers for our umbrella service will see margins from as little as £12.00. Margins vary depending on commercial factors. For a specific margin, please contact our Customer Service team on 01252 863700.
How will it benefit contractors?
Utilising the ePayMe umbrella product, contractors will be able to have the same flexibility with an outsourced provider but with the simplification of a standard PAYE pay.
