I was interested to read this recent article by Contractor UK “Experts spell out what your CV font says about you”. Talking to some of the industry experts, Contractor UK reported on the use of different typefaces within CV’s and the power of these fonts. With your CV acting as a visual representation of your career history, this is the first thing an employer would see before they even decide if they want to meet you in person. “Honest professionals with a good heart use Helvetica; the very experienced but concise go for Garamond and the plain lazy label themselves in Times New Roman.” – contractoruk As a designer at ePayMe, layouts and the use of different typefaces are something I work with on a daily basis. Now, I am a Helvetica fan, maybe it’s the designer in me but the simplicity of Helvetica makes it so powerful and I regularly use this typeface within my artwork. I know not everyone is a designer but it is still worth considering what image you want to present to the person at the other end of your CV. Brian Hoff owner of Brian Hoff Design, looked at the light hearted font Comic Sans, commenting that this should never be used within a CV “unless you are applying to clown college.” – contractoruk Now there is a time and a place for the typeface ‘Comic Sans’ but I have to agree with Brian Hoff a CV isn’t one of them. Sometimes simplicity conquers all. Click Here to read Contractor UK’s full article written by Sarah Pither – ePayMe – Marketing and Graphic Designer
