So the results are in…Conservative wins by majority! After a remarkable General Election it is the public that have awarded the Conservative Party, the majority of seats after this year’s General Election, with 331 seats, five more than was required to hold the majority within Parliament. Talking outside 10 Downing Street, Cameron has vowed to be the ‘Working Person’s Party’ pledging a Greater Britain. The win will allow the Conservative’s to govern without a coalition and the need for a ‘formal agreement’ with any of the other Political Parties. As Cameron begins to put together a new Government, REC Chief Exec Kevin Green says: “Recruiters are on the front line of the jobs market, placing over 600,000 people into permanent jobs each year and helping the 1.15 million workers who are out on temporary contracts on any given day. Our industry has an important part to play in supporting growth and creating millions more jobs. We have valuable insights on skill shortages, welfare reform, and education policy and we want to make sure that policy-makers benefit from this expertise.” Having been faced with uncertainty pre-election, through Labour’s negative speechmaking, will umbrella companies and the recruitment industry now be able to settle and see the General Election result as a positive outcome for all concerned?
