HM Revenue & Customs invest £45 million to improve Customer Services
Calling HM Revenue & Customs is always a stressful experience, being left on hold wondering if someone will ever pick up but you are not alone. It is estimated that only 66% of taxpayers were able to get through to a member of the HM Revenue & Customs team in the month of September 2014, leaving 2.4 million calls unanswered. With this falling below the 80% target of calls that should be answered to sustain a consistent level of service to the Taxpayers, HM Revenue & Customs have apologised and announced a £45 million investment in their customer service team, with new telephone equipment being installed to improve the customers experience. With such a big investment, it aims to create 3,000 additional roles within the Customer Service team, allowing other “business areas” to focus on elements such as tax credits and paperwork.
