We announced a couple of weeks ago that we had partnered with JobsAware.
JobsAware are working with the umbrella sector to help educate and protect contractors and umbrella workers by driving out non-compliance.
Most umbrella companies are compliant and offer a good service but with Contractors wanting to take home more of their gross pay, many are looking to schemes that provide this. These non-compliant schemes can look great on the surface for the Contractor but with all these things, they only have a certain shelf life and HMRC are slowly closing the loopholes and naming and shaming. Most of these scheme providers do not care about Contractor rights or their employment.
JobsAware have several Principles of Good Practice for Umbrella Companies and state that Payment Intermediaries and Umbrella Companies should do the following:
1. Demonstrate that they are working proactively to protect contractor rights.
2. Promote JobsAware as a place to refer contractors that have concerns about their employment.
3. Promote JobsAware as a place to refer contractors that need general employment help or advice.
4. Engage with the opportunity to engage with UK Government, through a Payment Intermediaries sub-committee, to discuss issues and opportunities in the sector.
5. Report abuse against themselves, such as contractor fraud, to JobsAware.
You can read more about Jobs Aware and Agency Workers here.
Most compliant umbrella companies will go through with the worker, before registering, how umbrella payroll works. How the umbrella rate or assignment rate is calculated and what is included. We will be running a series of blogs about compliance, onboarding and the workings of umbrella payroll in the next few weeks, in advance of the start of the new Tax Year.
If you would like to engage with an umbrella company that is compliant and ensures your workers are aware of umbrella payroll, margins and all the benefits before registering for payroll, talk to us today. We would love to hear from you ☎️ 01252 863700 or email us
