ePayMe June Newsletter
Welcome to ePayMe’s latest newsletter. We wanted to start off by introducing our newest recruit Cath Adams.
Recently joining the ePayMe Team, Cath Adams is at the hub of the business, processing payroll, statutory rights and expenses. Along with the rest of the Payroll team, Cath works hard to ensure that all our contractors are paid with accuracy and on time week after week.
We thought, what better way to find out more about Cath, than ask her a range of bizarre questions.
AGENCY – WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK?
Every employer has an obligation to ensure that their employees have a legal Right to Work in the UK, which cannot be confirmed without making the necessary identification and evidence of their status checks. Failure to determine an employee’s right to work, could result in penalties of up to £20,000 per illegal worker employed!
Do you know what documents are acceptable to evidence a person’s right to work status?
CONTRACTORS – HOW WILL THE QUEEN’S SPEECH AFFECT CONTRACTORS?
With the new Government now in place, this week we heard Queen Elizabeth deliver her annual speech to Parliament presenting the Government’s legislative plans for the year ahead, to a Conservative Government for the first time in 20 years.
Many of the 26 proposed new bills proposed have already been seen in the Conservatives pre-election Manifesto.
However the key question is what will affect you, the worker?
CONTRACTORS – OSBORNE TO PRESENT A SECOND BUDGET?
After the busy political movements that have taken place over the last few weeks, it appears that George Osborne will present another Budget, where we will see some of the Conservative Manifesto Pledges put in place, with the “working people” being the Tories’ main focus.
However we will have to wait until Wednesday 8th July to see what develops.
AGENCY – BAN ON EXCLUSIVITY CLAUSES FOR ZERO-HOUR CONTRACTS
Zero-hour contracts have been brought to the headlines once again as Tuesday saw new rules put in place banning the exclusivity clauses for staff on zero-hour contracts, meaning employers of zero-hour contract workers can no longer prevent employees from working for another business at the same time.
AGENCY – HMRC ‘NAME AND SHAME’
HMRC continue to ‘Name and Shame’ people/businesses who have deliberately made errors on their Tax returns and/or have deliberately failed to comply with their Tax obligations.
CONTRACTORS – WILL ‘SEVEN-DAY NHS’ INCREASE THE DEMAND FOR SKILLED AGENCY WORKERS?
After the promise of a ‘Seven-day NHS’ in the Queen’s Speech this week, contractors and recruitment agents are anticipating a boost in the demand for agency health care workers within the NHS.
DAN LINFOOT – BACK ON THE TRACK
Dan Linfoot is back on the track after his first official testing since his injury, great to see him back on the track.
“Firstly on recovery, it’s now been 5 weeks and 4 days since the day of breaking my wrist, and I’ve just returned home from a 2 day BSB test at Snetterton in which I managed to get back on the bike and do around 50 laps.Although not at competitive pace, it’s been great to get back on the bike and work with my crew again to get the ball rolling for our next race which is at Snetterton in another 3 weeks time. My best time was 1:50.6 – compared to Josh Brookes fastest of 1:46.8, along way off I know, but feel happy to even be able to lap this close when most people would still be in a cast!
Riding the bike wasn’t entirely comfortable, especially in right handers, but I expect in 3weeks time to be back to normal and to be able to ride to the best of my ability.“
