HMRC’s approach to fraud in the Covid-19’s support schemes
As many of the governments coronavirus support schemes are coming to an end, HMRC are assessing the impact of fraud within them.HMRC’s current estimate for the amount lost to fraud and error in the schemes during 2020 to 2021 is a total of £5.8 billion against a £81.2 billion spend. 8.7% in CJRS, 2.5% in SEISS phases 1-3 and 8.5% in the eat out to help out schemes.From the beginning, it was clear the scheme would be targets for fraud and that customers may make mistakes.The … [Read more...]

Some of Britain’s biggest supermarket chains are recruiting thousands of workers to help cover the busy Christmas period. With last year’s Christmas effectively cancelled for many, customers are expected to splash out on big celebrations this year.Asda has announced plans to recruit 15,000 temporary workers for the festive period, with roles covering checkouts, shop floor and home delivery. UK travel restrictions eased – will you be off anywhere?
From Monday 4th October, the UK government revealed new rules for travel. Countries and territories are now categorised as either the red list or rest of the world.The new travel system means that eligible fully vaccinated passengers and eligible under-18s returning from a country, not on the red list, can do so without needing to complete a pre-departure test. The number of job vacancies is currently at a new record high, indicating that the labour market is still yet to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.Between 4th-10th October there were a record 2.29 million job adverts available in the UK.
